How I De-Stress During Exams

With exams heading nearer by the second, it’s only natural to be scared and stressed out. As the days near, I hear several people say, “Don’t stress, dear!” to me and go away on their merry way leaving me standing there with the most annoyed expression. Well, it’s easier said than done, isn’t it? I’m sure like me, many of you are going to face those brutal exams (or are facing one right now as I write this) and are completely freaking out.

However, it is also very refreshing to take a day or even a couple of hours to de-stress and give that tired brain a well-deserved rest.  While there are several activities like jogging, swimming, dancing etc., people take up to de-stress themselves, these are a few of the activities I enjoy doing when I feel like I need to remove myself from the books.

While writing this post, I couldn’t help but wonder what people do to escape from the books. While workout and listening to music sure are some excellent ways, I’m sure there are some of you like to read, write or just sit while doing nothing. I’d love it if you share with me the things you do when you desperately need a break from the intellectual world.

DRAWING:

The most therapeutic thing for me is taking out my notebook, a pencil and just drawing whatever comes to my mind. While mostly I like to design a few anime characters, I also enjoy creating a few comic strips based on my everyday life experiences. Drawing allows me to escape into my imaginary world where there are goblins and angels. I guess you could say that is childish but I enjoy my little dream land that I’ve created as it works as a wonderful escape, even for a few minutes.

READING:

While I do enjoy my dream land, I enjoy travelling into some else’s little world as well. Call it silly but when I read books, I try to image myself as one of the characters that way it makes it so much more fun for me as I believe I am present in their adventures as well. My favourite, light hearted book is My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell. It is hilarious with beautifully constructed scenarios and charming characters. I would highly recommend this book! Once you start reading it, you won’t be able to put it down. I do enjoy reading a few period dramas by Georgette Heyer or Jane Austen, two of my favourite ladies! Have you read The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy? No? What are you waiting for may I ask?

GAMES:

While I do enjoy gaming online, I don’t get the time to play one during exams. I know if I start playing one of those, my one hour brake will turn into a four hour one and that is not what I want! Which is why I turn to towards simpler games which will help me de-stress but not book me for a four hour session. My go-to choices are Best Fiends and Fruit Ninja.  They are pretty addictive but I do give up after a certain amount of time. Do you like Best Fiends? I am currently at level 56!

CALMING TEA:

My mother bought me a selection of calming teas and I must say, they do work! I am not a coffee or a tea person but sipping on Camomile tea helps me calm down and concentrate more.

WATCHING ANIME:

I do enjoy watching movies, period dramas and Korean dramas but there is nothing I like more than watching a good anime! Currently I am (re)watching Snow White with Red Hair and it is one of my favourite anime of all time. If you watch anime and haven’t seen either of them, I really think you should! It has everything, action, drama, romance, supernatural and above all… Girl power!!

My list isn’t long but it contains all the things I do (even when I am not stressed) during exams to de-stress myself. I do listen to music but that is a given so I didn’t mention it here. I’d love to know what you guys do to de-stress yourself from any situation.
